Mini – BIOMAN 2016: Stem Cells in a Regulated Environment : July 19 -21 2016 at Alamance Community College, Graham, North Carolina Professor Bill Woodruff (Co-PI NBC2) and Dr. Maggie Bryans (PI – NBC2)
The conference started with Introductions and overview on all the basics of Stem cell technology and applications. With focus on Regenerative medicine and stem cell therapyTypes of Bio manufacturing and different levels of Clean room Gowning techniques were discussed and practiced at the lab.
The participants had lectures and teaching tools as well as hands on lab work with mESC cells, C2C12 cells and E14 mESC cells covering subculturing of Pluripotent cells, forming embroid bodies, initiation of Differentiation and analysis of Pluripotent and differentiated cells by immunofluorescence and alkaline phosphatase activity.
All the SOPS, handouts and reading material for the covered topics were provided for the benefit of understanding the content and to be able to take the course material and incorporate as modules.
Then the workshop participants had a very insightful tour of the Wake Forest Institute of Regenerative Medicine. It was mindblowing to see the advances in Patient specific treatment.
De-cellularize an organ to make it free of immunogenicity and regrow organ specific cells to yield a rejection free Transplant ! And what if an organ is not available ? No problem 3 – D print a scaffold and grow the cells !!
Stem cell therapy is truly a revolution in healthcare.
